Problem with 1992 Honda Elite Scooter?
I just started working on a 92 elite, I was told it sat for a few years and wouldnt start. I have replaced the spark plug, air filter, and drained the gas. I filled it with high-test fuel to help clean it out, sprayed the carb with cleaner etc so that it drains clean out of the bottom. The problem is i can get it started but when you throttle up it wont hold, it wavers back and forth. I have messed with the idle but i am unsure if the scooter is supposed to start with the wheel spinning? I've never owned/worked on a moped before, just regular bikes. I really, really, really dont want to have to pull the carb apart to clean it(we all know the pain in that). Any help is appreciated, Thanks!
Yes, scooters start and the wheel spins, no Neutral. So that's normal.
You might have to remove the carb and dissassemble & clean. I wonder if a jet is clogged with dirt or if a a needle valve seat has varnish build up.
However, first try this: Get a can of "Sea Foam" from a auto parts store; it's under $10. Add this to the tank, go for a low dilution rate, say about a quart of gas. start and run at high revs and be prepared for lots of smoke. More info about the miracles of Sea Foam can be found on Craiglist Motorcyle forums. More repair info tips/tricks at:

If it's a '92 Honda Elite [which is not a moped] but a 4-stroke single, (1) put it on the center stand; (2) put regular gas [not high-test] in ahd tank; (3) replace the fuel filter which is clogged and (4) open the choke prior to pushing the starter button. Again, do not tinker with the idle. The Elite should start right up.
Good luck!
