Nah, the Ruckus is considered a moped.

Top speed is about 34, but rated at 30

Well built bike! I have a "heavy" friend that rides one, and it pulls nicely.

Those are the dumbest looking scooters I have ever seen. 49cc it's basically an ugly anemic moped.

To keep up with 40 mph traffic, don't consider anything under 125cc. Might find a good used value on your regional Craigslist > for sale > motorcycles . .

The Ruckus`s top speed stock is 38 MPH, which DOES require an endorsement in CA, even though its a 49.5 cc engine, it STILL exceeds 30mph!

There are also hot-rod parts for the ruckus out there..

There was a nice review in Scoot Quarterly magazine (from San Fran) some months ago about it.

Get the endorsement, it`s easy, and then find a 150cc scooter that will be freeway legal.

THEN go to a scooter rally!

Normally the top speed of a 49 cc scoot is 30 mph or less. Most areas do not require a lic if over 16 to 18 for the 49cc but check with your driver lic dept for your area.

If your husband is going to traveling on any highway he will need at least 150cc and for any freeway 250cc. One word of advice the 150 cc has more problems than the 250cc.

It is very hard on the engine of any gas fueled scoot/cycle to run with a Wide Open Throttle (WOT) for more than just a short time.

What you need to get is a scoot that will cruise (about 3/4 of WOT) on the roads/highways/freeways that he will taking to work. Anyone that tells you that a 150cc scoot/cycle is fast enough to take on a freeway does not know what they are talking about. The next time you are on a freeway check out the average speed of the cars and trucks. Running with a WOT on a 150cc the speed is going to be around 55 to 60 with no wind and average weight–factor in riding against a head wind and extra pounds in extras and/or body, the scoot will not reach 55 mph.

Anyone familiar with the Honda Ruckus scooter?
My hubby is considering buying a Honda Ruckus scooter to commute to work. This is a 49cc scooter. Do you know if it requires a class M license in California? Also, what is the maximum speed this scooter reaches?
