Should I get a 1986 mint condition honda elite 150 scooter or mint condition 1973 kawasaki f7 175cc?
I am 20 year old dude that is going to get my m1 license soon I got my permit I am looking to get either one of the thing with two wheel and a motor to use to constantly commute to work and to college instead of using my car, basically put all the wear and tear and miles on the motor driving cycle, I need your help for me to decide on which would be a better choice of the 2 but I can only get one I can’t have both. Anyways I found on craigslist.org a good condition 1973 street legal enduro kawasaki 175cc f7 with 4020 miles an engine rebuild few years back and its a DMV registered grandfathered in two stroke motorcycle, only one negative feedback the owner told me that the the turn signal blinkers flash slower then usual, anyway the price on the motorcycle is 950.00 bucks but if I am lucky might negotiate to 750.00. The other is a good condition 1986 Honda Elite 150cc scooter with like 8,880miles and judging by the pictures its fantastic condition has the old school pop up head light, and of course a Honda 4 stroke engine, Its selling for 600.00 and its been well taking care of an elderly man sounds to me like his in his late 60′s-70, very honest, nice, loyal old man. Anyways I am checking the Kawasaki f7 enduro 175cc tomorrow morning and I talked to the girl who is the owner and seller of the bike and she seems pretty cool and chill. As far as the Honda Elite 150cc goes the old man told me he want get a chance to show it to me till sunday. So my question to you is which one should I go with? Should I go with the scooter or the 2 stroke motorcycle? I am very very undecisive so please, please help me out?
Which of these 2 good choices will be the best ultimate, un-regretful choice? Your best honest answer will be Truelly appreciated. Thank You.
So what would be the better choice for me? The 1986 Honda Elite 150 4 stroke liquid cooled with with 9,950 miles for only $600 or the 1973 kawasaki f7 enduro 175cc 2 stroke air cooled with 4,420miles for $950 or $750(if I could negotiate it that low) Which one would be the smarter choice in the long run cause cause either one of these bikes gotta last me at least till spring of 09. So which one of these is worthy enough to put up with daily driving around town, to work, to school, tattol of 20-30 everyday city driving(constant stop and go)? I gotta decide by quick, but I just afraid if I get a scooter it will bore me to death and if I get the enduro it may might not be made for daily driving so it conflict with reliability, but alot of parts are available for the enduro on ebay? So which one would I have more fun with? If I am 6'2 155 to 160 pounds so wht would be a better bike for me out of the 2?
I'd love to get my hands on a mint 1973 f7, I dreamed of this bike when I was a kid, but I had to wait several years before I could get my hands on its little brother a blue G5 100cc. My first dirt bike. (I sound like one of the other answerers to another of your questions)
Anyway, enough with the old fart stories. You have to admit that pressing a 35-year old bike, especially an air-cooled 2-stroke, into daily service might be asking a bit too much of it, regular wear items, for instance, might be a little hard to find. (Though with cdi ignition and autolube there aren't that many regular wear items. Even the spark plugs in these old 2 strokes seem to last much longer with today's unleaded fuel and synthetic 2-stroke oils.) You'll also find that the brakes were designed for another era, when there weren't so many soccer moms in suvs ready to swerve into your path…
Maybe I'm just telling you this so that I can go on craiglist and buy this bike myself…
The Honda scooter, on the other hand, is not very exciting but completely adequate.
Commute = scooter, but the Kawasaki will open up a whole new world if you decide to try off-road, and that would be cool too. It might simply come down to how tall you are – can you touch the ground with both feet on the Kawasaki? Myself, I’d go for the scooter ‘cos you’ll have more cash left.
